Swimstep Repair San Diego

This swimstep was damaged when a boat drifted up against it in a strong breeze. Constructed with balsa core, some of the core is wet from improper bedding of the fasteners. The damaged area has been re-cored using high density divinycell foam and laminated in place using 1708 biaxial fiberglass and vinyl ester resin. The bottom of the swimstep was power washed to remove bottom growth, skip sanded and re-gelcoated. The top was completely sanded to remove multiple layers of paint and poorly applied (and unsightly) nonskid. Following the surface preparation, shaping of the repair, and opening up and filling a few water blisters, the top surface has been primed using Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer. The waterways will be Awlgrip Cloud White to match the existing color of the boat, and the nonskid will either be Could White, or a contrasting color such as Matterhorn White, at the owner's discretion.
